The field is characterized by a vast amount of legislation, guidelines, and specific auditing standards. When an auditor encounters an irregularity or a specific scenario in a financial statement, they must immediately determine which regulations apply. The process of extracting the right information from bulky manuals and legal texts is time-consuming. There was a clear need for a more efficient method to make this specialist knowledge accessible, enabling employees to determine the correct direction for their audit programs at a faster pace.
The obstacle
Digitizing this process presented a fundamental challenge: the margin for error in accounting is virtually zero. While Generative AI is often praised for its creativity, in a legal context, this can lead to ‘hallucinations.’ This means a model could potentially invent facts or interpret legal articles incorrectly. Furthermore, the sheer volume of the source documents formed a technical obstacle. It involves massive files that must be accurately indexed without losing the underlying connections between various laws and guidelines. An answer that feels “roughly” correct is not enough; every piece of advice must be directly traceable to the source.
The solution
